About TFT
How Was It Developed?
Callahan Techniques® Thought Field Therapy® (TFT) was created and developed by Dr. Roger Callahan. It is a relatively new therapy that Dr. Callahan discovered in May of 1980. Over the last 27 years, Dr. Callahan has been the driving force in the development of this revolutionary therapy. There are hundreds if not thousands of people who would or should thank Dr. Callahan for this remarkable therapy.
What it is, a formal definition:
Thought Field therapy is a treatment for psychological disturbances which provide a code, that, when applied to a psychological problem the person is focusing on, will eliminate the perturbations in the thought field, the fundamental cause of all negative emotions. This code is elicited through TFT’s casual diagnostic procedure, through which the TFT algorithms were developed.
More simply, TFT is understood as acupuncture without the needles. By following Dr. Callahan’s algorithm formulas (tapping points), and focusing on the problem, TFT in a very high percentage of cases will totally eliminate all traces of psychological distress (emotional distress). This works for issues such as trauma, anxiety, pain, rage, anger, and phobias (i.e.: fear of public speaking, heights, snakes, etc).
The following are some useful articles on Thought Field Therapy. Some of the resources listed include works from the founder of TFT, Dr. Roger Callahan’s Book ‘Stop The Nightmares Of Trauma’, Steve McNulty’s Book, ‘Simple Secrets to Easy Weight Loss’ and Dr. Robert L. Bray’s PhD. Article in the Journal of Aggression, Maltreatment & Trauma: ‘Thought Field Therapy: Working Through Traumatic Stress without the Overwhelming Responses.
What Emotional Issues Are We Talking About
Issues Thought Field Therapy can help to reduce or eliminate:
- PTSD: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder - Issues that are related to: War, accidents, rape, child molestation, other major trauma issues, etc.
- Stress: Work (boss problems), how about driving through a storm, money, marriage, weight, school-test, any testing issue, boy/girl friend, children’s nightmares, child continues to cry for no apparent reason, etc
- Depression: Work, marriage, money, dating, weight, addictions, etc
- Phobias: Fear of public speaking, water, heights, flying, dogs, cats, spiders, etc.
- ADD & ADHD: Child or adult
- Improve sports skills: golf, baseball, football, basketball
Working with your doctor, TFT has improved the success rate in areas like cancer therapy. Some examples, working the same day after Chemo, reduction of stress before and after surgery.
Everyday you hear or read about how stress is related to or cause of illnesses.
Everyday we all have some stress related incidence, so do not be afraid to admit it and help yourself.
What it does not do:
TFT does not do anything directly to the brain nor to its biochemistry. It does nothing to change core beliefs, and people are not required to relive their childhood experiences. It does not make people suffer more pain than they want to or thought they could. Unlike many medications you see advertised where the side effects may cause pain or discomfort, there are no side affects. If it does not work, which is very unlikely, you will be no worse for wear.
How does it work?
Over 3,000 years ago the Chinese discovered an energy and the pathways it takes through our bodies. These pathways they called Meridians. If the flow of energy in these pathways was disrupted, then one will suffer with disease, trauma, etc. In a similar manner Dr. Callahan discovered that by Focusing on the problem and tapping with our finger tips, we can remove the problem(s). Tapping on certain points and focusing on the problem are the keys to clearing the perturbations that are plugging up our meridians. The algorithms that Dr. Callahan discovered for the removal of the perturbations are the tapping points on the Meridian pathways. The major difference between other therapies is that with TFT one must focus on the problem (Causal Diagnoses), directly or indirectly.
